Popular dancehall artist Vybz Kartel suffered a tough loss in court. After a 65-day trial, the longest in Jamaican judicial history, Vybz Kartel was convicted of murder.

Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, was convicted in the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. The murder took place in August of 2011 at the dancehall artist’s home in Havendale, St. Andrew. Despite the recent murder conviction, the victim’s body has never been found.

A jury of 11 of Vybz Kartel’s peers convicted him and three of his associates–Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John–of murder in less than two hours after going into deliberations. There was a fourth associate named Shane Williams was the only one who was found not guilty.

Vybz Kartel’s legal team, Tom Tavares-Finson and Christian Tavares-Finson, have always maintained that this murder case is a big conspiracy. They reference the fact that no body has ever been discovered and any other evidence the prosecution had failed to link the dancehall artist to the crime.

The date for sentencing has been set for March 27 and as you may have expected, Kartel’s legal team plans on filing an appeal on behalf of their client.
