(HOUSTON, TX) – Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, the Houston Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies, will be out in full force this holiday weekend carrying out a “no refusal” initiative. The operation targets motorists suspected of driving while intoxicated. When drivers who are stopped by law enforcement officers refuse to submit to an alcohol breathalyzer test, officers may obtain a warrant from a judge to have a blood sample drawn for testing.“Operation ‘no refusal’ is a great tool for us to use as we continue our efforts to get drunk drivers off the streets,” said Sheriff Adrian Garcia. “No matter how much we warn folks of the dangers of drinking and driving, there will always be those that think they are above the law.” To them he warns, “We’ll be looking for you this weekend.”According to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, during the Labor Day weekend this year, the “no refusal” initiative resulted in 191 DWI-related arrests.
