Sick of the Beyoncé headlines yet? No? Neither are we, which is good because the news just keeps on coming. What’s the latest buzz on Queen B? Rutgers University has modeled a class after her. The course, developed by doctoral student and lecturer in the school’s Department of Women’s and Gender Studies Kevin Allred, is called “Politicizing Beyoncé“.

Before you’re quick to think the course rehashes the superstar’s relationship with President Obama, think again. It goes a little bit deeper than how many performances and fundraisers Bey and her husband have hosted or attended on behalf of the First Family. In this course, her career is used as a “lens” with which to view race, gender, and sexual politics in America.

A snippet of course topics include: “the extent of Beyoncé’s control over her own aesthetic, whether her often half-naked body is empowered or stereotypical, and her more racy performances as her alter ego, ‘Sasha Fierce’”.

I never thought I would wish to revisit my undergrad years, but never say never. Kevin Allred, if you’re reading this can we: A.) discuss a potential class audit and B.) maybe explore options of bringing this class to the general public?
