My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album… I’m honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that’s taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it’s proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You’re the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That’s what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you. #grammys (via Macklemore’s Instagram)
Where is Kanye West when you need him?
So last night Kendrick Lamar absolutely killed the Grammy stage while Macklemore walked away with 4 Awards. One of those awards included the ‘Best Rap Album’ in which Macklemore even felt guilty for winning. It’s hard to believe that Kendrick Lamar walked away with no Grammy Awards. His album, performances and features have dominated the music scene this past year, but no love at the Grammys. Was Kendrick Lamar really robbed during last night’s award show, I must say that I believe so.
No shade to Macklemore but if you put the two head to head, Kendrick Lamar’s lyricism is obviously better. Maybe Kendrick Lamar is not mainstream enough to contend with Macklemore? Whatever the case may be, I am at least glad Macklemore admitted that Kendrick should have walked away with the award.
