President Barack Obama shook hands with Cuban leader Raul Castro today, and the friendly gesture has the whole world in arms about the meaning behind it.
The greeting happened during today’s Nelson Mandela memorial tribute, as Obama greeted dozens of world leaders. The unprecedented gesture sparked Twitter and Facebook reactions, as the United States does not share diplomatic relations with Cuba.
However, a senior Obama administration official says that the handshake was an incidental matter, and that the focus was to be on Mandela and his legacy.
