(HOUSTON, TX) – Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit arrested 17 people in an undercover prostitution sting last week in East Harris County.

The two-day operation, targeting suspects who solicit sex from prostitutes and the prostitutes themselves, was conducted in the Cloverleaf subdivision and along the I-10 East corridor.

“This is not the first reverse-prostitution sting nor will it be the last,” confirmed Sheriff Adrian Garcia. “We will continue to target the supply and demand of this type of criminal activity by going after those who solicit sex and those who sell sex.”

The operation was initiated in response to several citizen complaints and it involved multiple divisions within the Sheriff’s Office.

“Although human trafficking may not have been involved in these cases, the Sheriff’s Office is attuned to the fact that ‘sex slavery’ has become a significant problem in Harris County due in part to the high mobile area’s role as an international gateway,” Sheriff Garcia added. “The Sheriff’s Office will aggressively seek to blunt the organized enslavement of immigrants as well as longtime residents by criminals seeking to exploit women of all kinds.”

During the sting, undercover female deputies posed as prostitutes and worked the streets. Male undercover deputies who were canvassed the area in search of females who solicited sex for money.  The arrests were made after a two-day investigation. All of the suspects were charged with prostitution.
