Mary J. Blige says the backlash to her controversial Burger King ad was crushing.  In an interview with Hot 97’s Angie Martinez Wednesday, the Grammy winner apologized to everyone who was offended by the ad.  The clip, which went live online briefly in April, depicted Blige singing the ingredients for Burger King’s Chicken Snack Wrap to the music of her song “Don’t Mind.”  Critics came out swinging, accusing Burger King of exploiting stereotypes linking African-Americans with chicken consumption.  Blige told Martinez the fallout over the ad hurt her feelings.  She says she would never purposely do anything “so disrespectful” and explained that the commercial was never about chicken but rather the sandwich and its ingredients.

Burger King pulled the ad almost as quickly as it was unveiled, citing music licensing issues.  The company also issued a public apology to Blige.
