Adan Gutierrez-Mendez has been sentenced to ten years in prison for his role in a human smuggling ring. Gutierrez-Mendez 47, was convicted back in April of conspiracy to harbor and harboring immigrants for profit.

Two women who identified Gutierrez-Mendez as the person in charge of the smuggling ring, testified that they made arrangements to travel through Mexico with their final destination being Texas. Both women said that they were transported to a trailer in McAllen. They told the court that it was in that trailer they were sexually assaulted. Both women also shared with the court that they managed to escape from the trailer.

In court, Gutierrez-Mendez denied being in the trailer or knowing the women. Gutierrez-Mendez’ sentence was announced Wednesday in McAllen.
