On Wednesday, Houston City Council will consider an ordinance that would collect a $5 fee from exotic club patrons. The money would be used to fund rape testing kits.

Councilwoman Ellen Cohen is sponsoring the proposal and reportedly believes that the fee would raise about $3 million a year.

Currently, the city of Houston has a backlog of untested rape kits and has come under scrutiny for that backlog.

The Houston Police Department claims they do not have the manpower or money to test all of the DNA evidence that has been collected in those rape kits. Council members will consider the exotic club tax during Wednesday’s meeting.
