Hank Williams Jr. apologized Tuesday for comparing President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler while appearing o a a show on the Fox News Channel.  On his website, Williams thanked his supporters and explained his remarks.

“I have always been very passionate about Politics and Sports and this time it got the Best or Worst of me. The thought of the Leaders of both Parties Jukin and High Fiven on a Golf course, while so many Families are Struggling to get by simply made me Boil over and make a Dumb statement and I am very Sorry if it Offended anyone. I would like to Thank all my supporters. This was Not written by some Publicist.”

As far as apologies go, it’s better than a non-apology apology but not as good as a full mea culpa. Williams includes that classic unrepentant qualifier “if it offended anyone,” which tends to serve as code for, “I don’t really think I should be apologizing, but I’m not so stubborn that I don’t realize one is needed.”
