Police in Baytown say a man has confessed to the murders of two teenage girls whose bodies were found in a burning home on Sunday.

Joseph Francois Jean, 37, has been charged with one count of capital murder. He’s being held at the Harris County jail without bond. Baytown police discussed some of the details and evidence they say points to the man they arrested.

The arrest and charge comes after the deaths of 17-year-olds Chelsea Lang and Ashley Johnson. They say Jean, who used to date Lang’s mother, Victoria Wiley, was on parole for assaulting her and got into a fight with her at a Houston area bar early Sunday morning.

When authorities first talked to Jean, he denied doing anything wrong, but soon after, Jean had his parole revoked because he wasn’t supposed to contact Wiley.

Police say he eventually confessed, and there was more evidence — surveillance video and witnesses.
