HOUSTON – People throughout the Houston area are showing an outpouring of generosity as a group of radio stations collects non-perishable goods to send to refugees who have survived the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti.

The Radio One stations, including 97.9 FM the Boxx, Praise 92.1 FM and Majic 102.1 FM, conducted the collection effort starting Friday morning at the Kroger supermarket on 10306 South Post Oak Road in southwest Houston. The stations will broadcast from the store and the collection will take place until 7 p.m. Friday.

The Multi-Ethnic Community Center on 9819 Bissonnet Street has been so overwhelmed by donations of supplies and non-perishable foods that it is now only accepting monetary donations toward the Haiti relief effort.

U.S. Representative Al Green called the relief effort a huge commitment.

“The President of the United States has pledged $100 million. In my opinion, that is a good start,” said Green. “Aid provides hope to people and Haitians need hope.
