HOUSTON – The death of a Prairie View A&M student is now the subject of a criminal investigation, FOX 26 news has learned.

The student, identified as Donnie Wade, died on Tuesday night after being carried away from a student gathering in an ambulance.

University officials say he may have died while pledging for an on-campus fraternity called Phi Beta Sigma. No other details were immediately available.

Wade’s body has been turned over to the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine a specific cause of death.

Meanwhile, Wade’s classmates and school are planning a memorial service.
