In 2008, actor-comedian Bernie Mac died in a Chicago-area hospital after a bout with pneumonia. He was 50 years old. Mac, the star of the sitcom “The Bernie Mac Show,” won several awards for his work on the series which ran on Fox from 2001 to 2006. His film credits also included the “Ocean’s Eleven” film franchise, “Guess Who,” “Transformers,” “Pride,” “Mr. 3000,” and “Head of State.”
