Missouri City has adopted a no-smoking ordinance for many of the city’s public areas, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

The ordinance bans smoking in most enclosed public places, including workplaces and restaurants. It also bans smoking at youth sporting events held in city parks and outdoor areas within 25 feet of entrances to public places.

The ordinance goes into effect on Oct. 1.

A violation of the ordinance could result in a fine of up to $500.
