“I feel like I’m not an industry person. I feel like a lot of people didn’t have a real identity before the industry,” East said. “I feel like the industry … like, Dave East? That didn’t give me an identity. That didn’t make more people know me. I could never go crazy or trippin’ based on that. I might lose my mind in my regular life, when I’m David. But with this, I’m not a character. I don’t put on a suit where I got outside and say, oh I’m Dave East now. That’s me. So I feel like a lot of people buy into the pressures of the industry or try to stay afloat … keeping up with the Joneses. I just do me.”
