Black actors and actresses made history with Emmy wins on Sunday.

Katt Williams snagged his first Emmy with his guest-starring role on Atlanta this year, winning a stacked Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category. His competition? Bryan Cranston, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sterling K. Brown (Saturday Night Live), Donald Glover (Saturday Night Live) and Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live).

Williams’ scored the Emmy win on his very first nomination. He played Earn’s crazy uncle who just so happened to be called the “Alligator Man” by neighbors. Williams was so dedicated to the role, he even interned at an alligator farm.

Ron Cephas Jones won for his guest starring role in the beloved drama This Is UsSamira Wiley‘s guest-starring spot on the Amazon drama The Handmaid’s Tale also earned her an Emmy win and Tiffany Haddish‘s episode of Saturday Night Live this past November earned her an Emmy win as well.

The announcements were made on Sunday morning.
