YBN Nahmir‘s ascent from Birmingham, Alabama to national recognition as part of his YBN clique dates back to two beloved pastimes, random freestyling and playing Grand Theft Auto V on XBOX. The 10-deep YBN crew from Houston’s YBN Almighty Jay to YBN Cordae have managed to not only become the latest rap crew to emerge all with rap handles that read like gamer tags, they all offer a ver distinct and separate sound from one another.

Nahmir’s “Rubbin’ Off The Paint,” single first broke through last September and has collected well over 80 million plays on Soundcloud alone. Add to that a viral video and the ever evolving Soundcloud rap ecosystem and Nahmir continued to press forward career wise. Combine that with the buzzing success of the YBN crew as a whole and it made perfect sense for Nahmir, the leader of YBN to be named to this year’s XXL Freshman list.
