On the last Friday of Pride Month, Creed actress Tessa Thompson opened up about her relationship with singer Janelle Monae and came out as bisexual.

“We love each other deeply, we’re so close. We vibrate on the same frequency,” Thompson said of Monae in Net-A-Porter. “If people want to speculate about what we are, that’s okay. It doesn’t bother me.”

She continued, “It’s tricky because Janelle and I are just really private people and we’re both trying to navigate how you reconcile wanting to have that privacy and space and also wanting to use your platform and influence.”

As she mentioned in the interview, Thompson’s sexuality has never been an issue for her family or friends. “[In my family] you can be anything you want to be. I’m attracted to men and also to women. If I bring a woman home, [or] a man, we don’t even have to have the discussion,” she continued. “I want everyone else to have that freedom and support that I have from my loved ones,” she added. “But so many people don’t. So, do I have a responsibility to talk about that? Do I have a responsibility to say in a public space that this is my person?” she added.

Her and Monae were linked as an item earlier this year when the two were cozy all throughout the Dirty Computer film and release. Thompson was quick to point out that regardless of how close they are, the pair are not in a relationship.
