The suspected serial bomber who had been terrorizing Austin for the past three weeks is dead, authorities say. During a brief standoff with police, the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Mark Anthony Condittblew himself up in a car as a SWAT team was closing in.

A motive is still unknown and it is unclear whether or not Conditt acted alone.

“Again, this is the culmination of three very long weeks for our community, and throughout these weeks we’ve talked about the importance of remaining vigilant and looking out for each other,” Austin police chief Brian Manley said. “I want to continue that message as we stand here this morning, though, because we don’t know where this suspect has spent his last 24 hours and therefore we still need to remain vigilant to ensure that no other packages or devices have been left through the community.”
