On Tuesday during ABC sitcom “Black-ish” we got to see Ruby (played by Jenifer Lewis) getting scammed by a scam artist who targeted senior citizens. This situation is something that hits close to home for actress Jenifer because in 2015 she was a victim and was scammed out of $50,000.
In 2015, Jenifer met the La Fitness front desk manager and they later started dating one other, but he scammed her and later, Jenifer Lewis sued the fitness club for not “properly vetting the worker” and she was awarded $13,000 in a settlement in July.

“Having been scammed myself, my message is pay the f**k attention,” Lewis told The Post. “There’s no shame in my game, honey,” Jenifer said. “My whole thing is about helping people.
The actress recently wrote a book titled, “The Mother of Black Hollywood: A Memoir” that is out November 14 and it hits on the topic of her scamming incident and such.
When asked about the Black-ish episode and her character being targeted and scammed, Actress Jenifer Lewis brought up the fact that her character Ruby was a scammer in her youth and this was karma on her.
Jenifer also says, “Whenever anything happens, good or bad – even good things can be overwhelming – you have to feel it, no matter how painful or joyful it is. The feeling it what’s important. Of course it hurts. Then you keep it moving, honey- and in my case, you take care of it as much as possible.”
