It happened on Sunday at the Austin, Texas airport when the Bears linebacker Jerrell Freeman was waiting on a delayed flight back to Chicago for the Bears training camp when he decided to grab his last taste of Texas first.
Since Freeman is a Texas man he decided that his last Texas meal would be BBQ luckily he sit down at the Salt Lick Taco so that he could enjoy a chopped beef sandwich.

It was at the Salt Lick Taco when he noticed Marcus Ryan shoot out of his chair, “like he had forgotten something,” Freeman said. He said that he saw something was wrong, but he wasn’t sure what it could be…
“He went around the table and started to look a little frantic. I’m thinking, ‘Man, this is odd. Maybe one of his kids walked off and he can’t find his kid or something,” Freean told the Chicago Tribune.
They’re saying that Freeman was in the right place at the right time because the next thing he saw was an older lady who was smaller then Ryan and lesser strength then she needed to be attempt to perform the Heimlic maneuver on the him.
He didn’t think twice about it because after seeing that lady’s attempt fail, Freeman hurried over and standing at 6-foot, 236 pounds, grabbed the man and helped him by administering the Heimlic maneuver on him.
“I grabbed him and tried to squeeze the life out him,” Freeman said. “You’ve got to push in and up. So I did that and he started throwing up what he was choking on. I asked him if he was all right, and he shook his head like, ‘No!’ “
He continued with saying, “I grabbed him again and hit him again with it. And when I put him down the second time, his eyes got big. He was like, ‘Oh my god! I think you just saved my life, man!’ It was crazy.”
He told the Chicago Tribune that afterwards Marcus Ryan introduced himself and the two were shocked about what just happened and Ryan made a comment about Freeman’s strength and saying he had some discomfort in his ribs.
That’s when Freeman told Ryan that he was heading back to Chicago to the Bears training camp.
After it was over and Ryan was ok the two took a picture together and Freeman posted it to Twitter saying, “CRAZY!! Just saved my guy Marcus Ryan’s life by using the Heimlich maneuver in the middle of the Austin airport! WOW Mom would be proud ha ha.”
“I’ve never done the Heimlic before,” Freeman said. “I don’t think I’ve had any training or anything. My mom’s a nurse, and she had talked about it. So I just did what I heard you should do. I guess it worked.”
Freeman said that after the ordeal, Ryan went back to eating his BBQ and he finished with saying, “I guess that was some good brisket. He wasn’t about to let that go to waste. You can’t get between a man and his brisket. I get it.”
Freeman also said, “I was trying to save all my energy for training camp. And here. Had to go rush up on this guy like I’m about ready to make a tackle. Whatever it takes.”
