De'Launa Anderson Powell, 24, of Mobile, Alabama was looking forward to celebrating her 25th birthday this Friday. Instead of a party, her loved ones are now planning her funeral. Early Tuesday, October 18, 2016, around 5 am, her life was cut short. According to Mobile Police Chief James Barber, De'Launa was gunned down while sitting inside of her car at a stop sign. She was heading to work when she was shot multiple times. Barber believes someone tried to rob her. Multiple shell casings were found at the scene… “This young lady got up today, took a shower, got in her vehicle to go to work,” Barber said, “this is actually an attack on us as a community, as a society. This could have been anybody’s wife, anybody’s daughter”… "De'Launa was the kind of person that when she walked in the room, she made everyone smile," said her friend Jessica Silver. De'Launa's death has caused so many hearts to grieve. She was a loving and devoted mother of a five-year-old daughter and she was a talented make-up artist. She is remembered for her drive to succeed and entrepreneurial spirit. Friends say she had a warm and welcoming personality and a sweet spirit. We extend our sympathies to De'Launa's daughter and all her loved ones and friends who are grieving her tragic loss. Rest in love De'Launa. ✨ #delaunapowell #justicefordelauna #rip #delaunaanderson #gonebutnotforgotten #restinparadise #gonebutneverforgotten #restinpeace #instamemorials #stoptheviolence #stopthekilling #mua #makeupartist #gonetoosoon
Twenty-four-year-old De’Launa Powell was shot and killed early Tuesday morning in Alabama.
According to Mobile Police Chief James Barber, Powell was gunned down while sitting inside her car at a stop sign in Mobile, Alabama. Chief Barber believes that someone tried to rob Powell after detectives found multiple shell casings on the scene, FOX 10 reports:
The victim attempted to drive away during the robbery attempt, and that is when someone started shooting at her, police said. Even though she was hit multiple times, she kept driving before stopping on the interstate, police said.
“This young lady got up today, took a shower, got in her vehicle to go to work,” Chief Barber said. “This is actually an attack on us as a community as a society. This could have been anybody’s wife, anybody’s daughter.”
Powell’s friend, Jessica Silver, said, “I’m just shocked, I don’t understand. She didn’t deserve this at all.” Powell was known as a mother, a makeup artist, and dear friend. She leaves behind a 5-year-old daughter.
De’Launa Powell’s death marks the ninth homicide in the city in almost two weeks.
