A55-year-old Brooklyn man died Sunday after a violent stabbing allegedly involving his estranged wife, the New York Daily News reports.

Venus Palmer, 53, was identified by neighbors as the man’s wife. The victim’s name was not immediately released.

“She says hello, she’s friendly with everyone on the block. She’s a friendly neighbor,” said neighbor Kevin Rivera in an interview with the Daily News. “She’s quiet, doesn’t say anything, don’t make no problems with anybody.”

Palmer, who has a protection order against her husband, told authorities that he choked her moments before the stabbing. The victim suffered knife wounds to the chest and neck.

Police were called to Palmer’s Cyprus Hills home around 2:30 p.m. 30 minutes later; the ambulance rushing the critically wounded man to Jamaica Hospital hit another vehicle.

A second ambulance did not pick up the stabbing victim until 3:25 p.m., the Daily News writes.

The man suffered no injuries from the crash, but police say it is not clear if the second ambulance’s delayed arrival contributed to the cause of death.

Neighbors of the couple say the area has seen a dramatic increase in crime in the last few years.
