After months of rumors swirling that Samsung was gearing up to purchase Tidal, it looks like that won’t be happening.
A Samsung representative confirmed the news to Variety magazine over the weekendI. “The rumor of Samsung acquiring Tidal is not true,” says the tech giant rep. The rumor began last October, when a Tidal owner reportedly stopped by the Samsung offices to meet with company execs.
Since Jay Z took partial ownership of the subscription-based music streaming service, the company has struggled with plenty of marketing and management issues. Thanks to the exclusive releases of Kanye West‘s The Life of Pablo and Rihanna‘s ANTI, the service has seen a huge increase in member subscriptions. WIth new Beyoncé material likely coming down the pipe this year, there’s a great chance exclusive Queen B content could also help leverage more signups.
As for Samsung, the company is still trying to find solid ground in the music streaming space. The tech company launched a streaming service called Milk Music, similar to pandora, exclusively to it’s device users. But all signs are showing that will soon be shut down.
