News travelled fast on Saturday morning (Aug. 8) as hip-hop heads awoke to find out that Brooklyn born rapper Sean Price had passed away.

But in an effort to keep his memory alive, Graffiti artist and former 5 Pointz curator, Meres One, created a mural of Price on a street corner in Crown Heights, according to Gothamist. Meres says it was an appropriate place as it was a frequent hang out spot amongst the label.

Meres said, “All of his label would come to 5 Pointz…I had this wall for a year and I wanted to do a portrait, I just didn’t know who. It just was a perfect fit, one of the illest out of Brooklyn.”

The mural, which can be found at the corner of Bergen Street and Kingston Avenue, is 20 feet by 15 feet.

Meres used to run the infamous 5 Pointz, which was an outdoor art exhibit space in Long Island City, New York, and was known for it’s abundance of bright graffiti sprawled against the walls of a 200,000-square-foot factory building.

The name came from the epicenter signifying the coming together of the 5 boroughs, but later became an international treasure for all graffiti enthusiasts.

Meres recalls meeting Sean Price and what the mural means to him, “When I ran 5 Pointz, it was amazing to meet all of the pioneers that I grew up admiring and listening, and the fact that they came to something that I created–I can’t think of anything better. So to me, this is like payback, especially to him,” Meres said.

The mural represents a way for fans to keep Price not only in their hearts and headphones, but in Brooklyn.
