So in today’s edition of frivolous lawsuits we look at the case of Dominique Sharpton, the he eldest daughter of civil rights activist Al Sharpton, and her bid to sue the city of New York for $5 million after she fell in the street and sprained her ankle. Now, lets all be honest, we have all THOUGHT about suing after taking a public fall, I mean it’s embarrassing and clearly some one elses’ fault and not our own right? So naturally the first thought is who you can sue and for how many millions of dollars. We all think it…..we dont actually do it! Unless you are Dominique Sharpton who says she was ‘severely injured, bruised and wounded’ when she stumbled over uneven pavement at the corner of Broome Street and Broadway downtown last year. Now, she’s not the only person to sue the city of New York over its faulty side walks- One plaintiff, Denise Giles, got a $2.25 million settlement seven years after suing the city’s Health and Hospitals Corporation for failing to fix a broken sidewalk outside one of its clinics. Giles claimed she needed ankle surgery as a result of her fall.

Her payout was one of 885, or $60 million worth, that the city made over a 22-month period for defective sidewalks. I guess where things get a little funny for me is when you look at her instagram account and see pictures of her line dancing and climbing a ladder on Christmas Eve to put a star on top of the tree. If she really is hurt then of course she should be taken care of, but 5 Million dollars?!?!!!? And that’s coming out tax payers pockets……..What are your thoughts?
