While we want to have all the pride in the world for the beautiful Black woman who is the Mayor of Baltimore, we’re rolling our eyes all the way to the white meat at how Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake handled the Baltimore Uprisings.

Sadly, what’s happening in Baltimore is what catapulted her into the spotlight, but now that the light’s on, Rawlings-Blake is being exposed and we’re not too happy with what we see. She might be the youngest person ever to be elected to the Baltimore City Council, but she’s also pretty much the most loathed woman in Baltimore right now. But why?
1. She Doesn’t Understand Urgency
Rawlings-Blake waited until 8 p.m. on Monday, after the riot gear-clad police officers had already clashed with teenagers in West Baltimore before she ever made a statement. This is her city and she should have been there for not only the students, but all of Baltimore.
A local CBS news video caught her saying, “We also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well,” in regards to the uprisers who were protesting the death of Freddie Gray.
2. She Criminally Profiles
At the news conference that took forever for Rawlings-Blake to hold, she referred to Baltimore’s uprisers as “thugs.” Not only that, but she tweeted the trigger word as well:
That word does more than just give a new name to the people of Baltimore, it shapes the media and the public’s perception of them. It also reduces the amount of responsibility the police have–who are on the opposition’s side to those passionate protestors in Baltimore.
Malcolm X said it best, “If you’re not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”
3. She Was The Lesser Of Two Evils
Back in 2010, Rawlings-Blake became mayor after the then-mayor Sheila Dixon resigned because she was convicted of embezzlement. No major disasters happened within that time and the 2011 elections, she won 87 percent of the vote because the citizens of Baltimore mistook the uncanny status quo for a job well done by Rawlings-Blake. Boy, were they wrong!
