Houston will be part of a multi-state voter registration drive on Saturday.

The advocacy group Mi Familia Vota, Spanish for “My Family Votes,” will be out in the Spring Branch area in northwest Houston going door to door urging people to register to vote.

Mi Familia Vota spokeswoman Melissa Miranda said they want to remind people that voting allows them to improve their lives.

“Our mission is to engage the Latino community, immigrant communities and allied communities to engage in civic participation to ensure social and economic justice.”

She says eventually they expect to register 10,000 new Latino voters in Houston before the general election this November.  The goal is register 300,000 new Latino Voters nationwide.
