Think your 12-year-old is probably not sexting? Think again. New research finds that more middle schoolers are sending explicit text messages than originally thought. A new study found that a quarter of troubled seventh-graders send sexually suggestive texts or photos. Those who sent photos were especially likely to engage in sexual behavior. Researchers found that the kids who reported sexting also had less awareness of their feelings and reported more trouble managing their emotions, which researchers says suggests kids are using sexting as a form of self-expression instead of “more emotionally challenging direct interactions.”
