To commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Face My Abuse Organization brought out celebrity guest speakers and survivors last Saturday.
“Love & Hip Hop: NY” star Erica Mena, Nicki Minaj’s mother Carol Maraj of the Carol Maraj Foundation, author Teri Woods, NYC Council Member Jumaane D. Williams, Tashera Simmons (DMX’s ex), all showed their support.
Erica spoke in great detail about her harrowing ordeal. She described trivial everyday issues that would escalate into intense physical altercations. As with most abuse victims, Erica felt trapped in her circumstance, not knowing how to get out. Finally, with the help of her son, Erica got enough strength to leave. Reaching out to family for help, Erica escaped her abuser, never to return.
