The Texas City Stingarees missed the playoffs in 2011 thanks to a one point loss to Friendswood; courtesy of a blocked field goal. The one thing that stood out from that game: The team was loaded. It was a roster littered with sophmore players. Enter Leland Surovik. The Stings new coach brought a winning attitude to the program, created a family atmosphere and has worked to maximize their potential. Following a trip to the second round of the 4A-D2 playoffs, they’re ready to contend for a championship.

On offense, they feature two of the most remarkable athletes ever to walk the halls of the school: twins Armanti and D’Onta Foreman. Both players pose threats from multiple angles. Not only is Armanti a top flight receiver, he’s an outstanding return man, and took an interception 99 yards to the house against Friendswood last season. D’Onta can control a game from the running back spot and also plays linebacker on defense. Quarterback Andrew Allen is a solid, accurate passer with good pocket presence who quietly controls the game. They also have an outstanding kicker in Aaron Klaes.

On defense, the stings field a special talent in junior linebacker D’Vonta Hinton. Not only is he fast, but his instincts are unmatched. He’s a natural leader and will get the most from his teammates. Ramsey Ramirez, Tate Smith and Korey Robinson will hold down the defensive front.

Coach Surovik has his team positioned to make a run at their first championship since 1999. The winning culture is re-born in Texas City.
