Houston News, Traffic and Weather:

The Westfield Mustangs ran the table in district 13-5A in and scored 108 points in their first 2 playoff games of 2012. They seemed like they were about to take control of the game against Dallas Skyline. They took a 9 point lead into the locker room but watched Skyline explode for 31 second half points. The Mustangs lost 38-33 and watched 16 starters graduate. It was an abrupt ending to an otherwise sensational season.

This new batch of talent may be young, but it’s very athletic and extremely talented. The Mustangs may very well have the best offensive line in the state. They’ll certainly be battle tested in district play with the likes of Klein Collins, Dekaney and Klein looking to dethrone the reigning 13-5A champs.

Quarterback Will Dedon is a dual threat signal caller and is made more dangerous by the presence of the front 5. The defense is loaded as well. Ahmed Oliver is a new face on the defense but many believe they won’t miss a beat. The Mustangs greatest strength is their ability to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. They have a rare, almost perfect, combination of size and speed.

Head Coach Corby Meekins is without a state championship but continues to be one of the area’s top minds. Most teams that lose as much as they did a year ago would probably look to rebuild. The Mustangs reloaded. They may be young. They be inexperienced. But if you ask anyone in their division, they’re still very very dangerous. The Westfield Mustangs are on the Road to State!
