Hello Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Nets are open for business and for the first time in 55 years there is a major league sports team in Bucktown. The newly branded Nets made their debut at the Barclays Center in style with a 107-100 win over the Toronto Raptors in their long delayed season opener.

Center Brook Lopez made the sold out crowd that included Jay-Z and Beyonce forget that the team was pursuing Dwight Howard at least for one night with a 27 point effort on the offensive end. However, it was starting point guard Deron Williams who will be the answer to the NBA trivia question for years to come as he made the first basket in Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center history just under a minute into the game. Williams finished with 19 points and 9 assists. Super sub Chris Watson, acquired from the Chicago Bulls, poured in 15 points including a buzzer beating 3-pointer to end the first half. Joe Johnson, the other superstar acquisition chipped in 14 points.

Lopez lauded the great atmosphere provided by the capacity crowd dressed in black and white after the game. The excitement of Brooklyn basketball was felt througout the night from the opening address from Commissioner David Stern (who was booed then cheered) and Williams to the final buzzer. Brooklyn sports is back in effect.
