The city of Houston is providing training sessions for community leaders, social service providers and individuals to aid Spanish speakers during an emergency.
It will be the city’s community emergency response team for those who speak Spanish.
The city’s office of emergency management will provide special training to people who want to help out during an emergency. Benito Juarez with the city of Houston says this is really needed ”you know we have great sector of our community that are mainly Spanish speakers, so we want to make sure that they also reach out and they have this information.”
Participants in the program will complete eight weeks of training that will include a mock emergency drill. Benito says its a hands on final exam “at the end of the training there is going to be a mock drill where the students are going to be able to use all the knowledge that they acquired through the training.”
Enrollment in this program is limited. but those who complete the training will receive a city of Houston first aid training certificate, a special identification card and an emergency response manual.
