(Montrose, CO) — A Colorado man is recovering after cutting off his own toes to free himself after he was pinned underneath his six-ton trailer. John Hutt says he was in a remote forest in Montrose and no one could hear him scream, so he knew what he had to do and grabbed his three-inch pocket knife. Hutt, a retired logger, then wrapped his foot up with his shirt, gathered his toes and drove into cell phone range to call for help. An ambulance took him to the hospital for surgery where doctors could not reattach his toes.
