I got a chance to see the latest Steve Carell/Ryan Gosling comedy/romance “Crazy, Stupid, Love” on my anniversary. And, even though its about a relationship falling apart, it was the perfect choice for the date. Recently many of the Rom-coms have tried to hard to emulate Judd Apatow’s mix of rauch and sweetness (the failed “Going the Distance”), but this movie stands on it own mixing the relationship between a womanizer (Gosling) and a recently divorced mess (Carell). The movie delivers a clever and intelligent take on how a failed relationship can effect all around it. Sure, there are situations built up for gag purposes, but the real message is in love sometimes truly is both “crazy” and “stupid.”
