HOUSTON – Police found a whole lot more than lettuce aboard an 18-wheeler during a routine traffic stop and truck inspection Sunday night, investigators said.

The officers stopped the truck in the 13400 block of the East Freeway near Market Street around 4:45 p.m.

The truck was supposed to be carrying a load of lettuce, but the officers said they found 1,995 pounds of marijuana packed into plastic-wrapped bundles amid the boxes of leafy greens.

The truck’s driver, Paulino Guerra, 36, was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana.

Police said the pot would be worth about $3.1 million on the street.
