MISSOURI CITY, TX (KTRK) — Missouri City Police are on the trail of some identity thieves. They’ve victimized at least nine people and stolen thousands of dollars.

After eight months of investigation, Missouri City Police say they finally have some surveillance video of this alleged suspect and a man they believe to be her accomplice. They say the woman has been passing bogus checks all around the Houston area.

The video was captured by security cameras at a Kroger grocery store in Sugar Land recently on Highway 6 near Settlers Way. The woman can be seen writing a check alongside what police say is her male counterpart.

Police say the woman has written at least 75 checks totaling more than $15,000. What’s unusual, though, is that it’s not just one person’s information used for purchasing the items.

“What’s baffling is, we have a suspect who uses one person’s name, another person’s driver’s license number and a third person’s bank account number to pass these checks,” explained Missouri City Police Detective Russell Terry. “I think that’s what’s really concerning to us, because we do not know who it is.”

In all, police believe the suspect or suspects have taken the information from at least nine unsuspecting victims. Where they got that information still is a mystery. For example, three of the five driver’s license numbers apparently belong to senior citizens in the Montgomery County/Spring area.

If you have any information which could help in solving this case, you’re asked to call Missouri City Police at 281-403-8700.
