Missouri City police said Leiah Jackson, 27, was stabbed nearly two dozen times in her back and arm at a home on Palm Desert Lane near Continental Drive on Sunday at 1:15 a.m.

Jackson was 8 and a half months pregnant with a boy, and she tried to shield him during the attack, investigators said.

Detectives said Jackson ran to her mother’s home for help. Jackson told her mother that she was attacked by her fiance’s cousin, police said.

Jackson was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she and the baby died.

Houston police said Jackson’s fiance, Yancy Daniels, 30, was shot to death 45 minutes earlier at a Southwest Houston apartment complex on West Airport Boulevard near Sandpiper Drive.

Missouri City police said they are waiting for the results of DNA tests being conducted by Houston police before charges will be filed. Police sources told KPRC Local 2 that the suspect is a family member of Daniels.

Family members said there was no sign of trouble between Jackson and Daniels prior to their deaths. Neighbors said they witnessed Daniels arguing with a family member Saturday at 9:30 p.m.

Jackson worked as a nurse’s aide at E.A. Jones Elementary in Missouri City for three years. The school said it would have grief counselors at the campus to help students, teachers and staff deal with Jackson’s death.

Jackson was a 2001 graduate of Elkins High School.
