Gucci Mane’s tremendous impact on the mixtape circuit has not gone unnoticed. MTV News is reporting that the Atlanta emcee has been named Mixtape Daily’s Artist of the Year. It is estimated that Gucci had 150 songs appear on mixtapes throughout 2009, along with dozens of unofficial albums showcasing the rapper’s face on the cover. A thankful Gucci Mane discussed the honor with MTV saying, quote, “It always feels good to be recognized by the streets. That’s where I come from, that’s where I draw my music from. That’s my inspiration.” Two-thousand-and-nine also saw the release of Gucci’s second studio album, “The State vs. Radric Davis.” The record hit stores December 8th, debuting at number ten on the Billboard 200 chart.

Gucci Mane is currently serving a 12 month sentence for a parole violation. The rapper’s attorney, Dwight L. Thomas, recently told MTV News that he hopes Gucci will be released sometime early next year.
