Disney’s The Princess and the Frog topped the weekend box office, earning $25 million — the highest-grossing start ever for an animated movie in December.

Director Clint Eastwood’s Invictus, starring Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman, took the third spot with $9.1 million in its opening weekend, while The Blind Side held strong in No. 2 with $15.5 in its fourth weekend.

New Moon fell to No. 4 with $8 million, followed by A Christmas Carol dropping to the fifth slot with $6.9 million.

George Clooney’s Up in the Air, which expanded its limited release from 15 to 72 sites, took the No. 11 spot with $2.5 million. It opens nationwide on Christmas.

Rounding out the top 10: Brothers (No. 6, $5 million); 2012 (No. 7, $4.4 million); Old Dogs (No. 8, $4.39 million); Armored (No. 9, $3.5 million) and Ninja Assassin (No. 10, $2.7 million).
