A-Rod’s time has finally come.

Famed New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez has decided that once his contract is up at the end of the 2017 MLB season, he’ll retire. His 10-year $275 million deal was monumental at the time of its signing.

This is bittersweet news because of Rodriguez’s use of performance enhancing drugs. Before the controversy, A-Rod put up amazing numbers, including a staggering 687 home runs. Since returning from a season-long suspension for steroids, Rodriguez has still been a key player on the Yankees roster, and his stats are the best they’ve been since 2007.

I won’t play after next year. I’ve really enjoyed my time. For me, it is time for me to go home and be dad,” Rodriguez told ESPN on Wednesday afternoon.

Regardless of his tarnished legacy, A-Rod will go down as one of the best to ever don the pinstripe uniform.

Now, what will the Yanks do with all that extra cap space?
