There are times where you as an artist reaches out to an industry professional for an opportunity. Most times the usual answer you would get is “You got to get hot in the streets”. What doesn’t happen at times is that person tells you how to “Get Hot”. Why don’t they tell you? Well its simple, No 1 formula works for everyone. Some of them will tell you to get the dj’s to play the record, network, and build a fanbase. And even after you’ve worked on that, does it guarantee you success? Not in all cases. Some artists have came up with strong campaigns, and have gained radioplay, but still wont get booked for paid shows, or get paid for features.

Developing a street team, hiring PR, strong online marketing, radioplay, and show opportunities are things that can better your chances, but it still does not guarantee you stardom. You also have to put in work physically. I always tell artists of any genre that when you’re an artists, its just like running for president. You have to shake hands, and kiss babies. Hiring PR, Marketing specialist, etc, while sitting at home, will not help you. While your online campaign is running strong, have a physical ground campaign. Go to clubs, concerts, and in hip hop in most cases, the strip clubs. What you have to realize that this business is about taking risks. If it doesn’t work out, you have to make a decision to either continue, or count your losses, and look into doing something else.

But the phrase “You Got To Get Hot” does not contain one set formula. The key essentials is a start, and if does work for you, the opportunities are rewarding.
