The Marshall Buffaloes made the jump from mediocrity to powerhouse seemingly overnight. Coach James Williams insists that it’s an ongoing process, but the fact of the matter is he’s built a team capable of achieving greatness for years to come. JW Ketchum is already one of the best quarterbacks in the state and he’s just a junior. There’s all kinds of young players on the roster like outstanding cornerback Kendall Sheffield, another junior. The team is primed for a run at the 4A Division 2 title, not just this year, but next year as well.
Their biggest enemy may be themselves. The players and coaches agree that last year’s run ended prematurely, mainly due to a lack of focus at the end of the season. The team didn’t have their best week of preparation before the regional title game and they ultimately lost to a less talented team.
They remember that and they are on a mission to prove that last year was a preview of things to come. Along with Ketchum, the Buffaloes have dynamic weapons in running back Davon Crookshank and QB/WR Jeremy Smith, a sophomore who accounted for 11 TD’s last season as a freshman. Defensively, they field perhaps the best cornerback tandem in all of 4A between Sheffield and Dominique Roberson.
Fort Bend has earned a reputation for producing quality athletes and strong teams. Marshall can become the next great team in a long line of historic excellence. The Marshall Buffaloes are on the Road to State!
