A nurse accused of fatally shooting a mother outside a medical facility in suburban Houston and kidnapping the mother’s newborn son is scheduled to return to court for a bond hearing Monday.

According to published reprots, a judge delayed Verna McClain’s hearing until Monday in a measure to give court-appointed attorneys more time to review her case. Thirty-year-old McClain is being held in Montgomery County Jail without bond. During her court appearance last last week, she reportedly comprehended the fact that she was facing a capital murder charge.

Additional reports indicate that a defense attorney for McClain said that she was confused, distraught and upset. The attorney raised question about the mental state of McClain. Twenty-eight-year-old Kala Golden was killed and her 3-day-old son abducted Tuesday of last week. McClain is accused of fatally shooting Golden and kidnapping her newborn son.
