The recent floods in the Texas Hill Country have left communities devastated—homes destroyed, roads washed out and families forever changed. In the face of this destruction, neighbors, volunteers and first responders are working tirelessly to provide relief, but they can’t do it alone.

You can make a difference. Whether it’s through donating supplies, contributing to local recovery funds or supporting organizations on the ground, every act of generosity helps rebuild lives. As Texans, we help our neighbors when they’re need: Here’s how you can support recovery efforts and help our friends, family and fellow Texans affected by this tragedy.

What’s Needed?

Relief coordinators on the ground have requested specific items. Please focus on providing new, unopened goods:

  • Cleaning Supplies: Heavy-duty trash bags, bleach, gloves, mops and scrub brushes.
  • Hygiene Products: Toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant and feminine hygiene products.
  • Baby Supplies: Diapers, baby wipes and formula.
  • Food & Water: Bottled water and non-perishable, easy-to-open food items like protein bars.
  • Household Items: New socks, underwear (all sizes), towels and lightweight blankets.
  • Gift Cards: For groceries, fuel, or home repair stores are highly requested as they provide flexibility for families.

Local Fundraisers & Donation Drives

Numerous Houston-area organizations have stepped up to collect supplies and funds that will go directly to the flood victims:

  • Houston Millennials & Community Partners: A coalition of groups including Houston Millennials, VFW Post 8790, and Hearts of Grace are hosting a daily donation drive. All items will be delivered directly to the impacted community at the request of The Salvation Army.
    • What: Collecting essential supplies.
    • Where: VFW Post 8790, 1560 VFW Way, Houston, TX.
    • When: Daily from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM through Thursday, July 10th.
    • Volunteer: You can also volunteer to help sort or pick up donations by clicking here.
  • American Furniture Warehouse (Katy): The furniture store is serving as a major drop-off point for donations.

  • Humble ISD: The school district has organized two collection sites for the community.
    • Where: North AG Barn (4020 Mills Branch Drive, Kingwood) and another Humble ISD location.
    • When: Through Tuesday, July 8th, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
  • Houston Texans & Dallas Cowboys: The state’s two NFL teams have partnered with the NFL Foundation to pledge a combined $1.5 million to support families affected by the floods.

Other Ways You Can Help

If you are unable to donate physical goods, here are other critical ways to support the relief efforts:

  • Donate Financially: This is often the most effective way to help. It allows organizations on the ground to purchase exactly what is needed at any given moment.
    • Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country: Has established the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. This is a vetted, centralized fund that will distribute money to nonprofits engaged in rescue, relief, and long-term recovery. You can donate directly on their website.
    • Texas Search and Rescue (TEXSAR): This non-profit is a crucial part of the official search and recovery operations. Donations directly support their life-saving work.
  • Volunteer Through Official Channels: Officials are asking that volunteers do not self-deploy to the disaster area. To be most effective, register with an organization that is coordinating the volunteer response.
    • The Salvation Army Kerrville is compiling a volunteer list for future needs. You can register at here.

For Those Directly Impacted

For any friends, family, or community members who have been directly impacted by the floods, a Major Disaster Declaration has been approved for Kerr County.

  • FEMA Assistance: Affected individuals can apply for federal aid, including grants for temporary housing and home repairs. Register online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362
  • Disaster Distress Helpline: For emotional support, call or text 1-800-985-5990. This service provides 24/7 crisis counseling.
