Oklahoma Cop Body Cam

An Oklahoma police department has released footage of one of their officers involved in a fatal shooting of a suspect. Muskogee Police Officer Chansey McMillin’s body camera captured graphic footage of him in the shooting death of 21-year old Terence D. Walker. According to reports, officers responded o a domestic disturbance on Jan. 17 at the Old Agency Baptist Church. A 911 dispatcher was advised Walker was armed and threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend who was attending a wedding. Witnesses claimed Walker told the unidentified woman he, “had a bullet with her name on it”. Officers shortly arrived on the scene to investigate the incident, where they asked Walker to follow them outside. There, McMillin started to search Walker for weapons and asked if he had any that would harm him and noticed Walker acting tense. Walker then broke out of McMillin’s grasp and ran out of the church parking lot prompting a chase.

As McMillin perused Walker, Walker drops something on the ground and picked it back up. Walker attempted to take off again, but McMillin pulls out his weapon and shot six times killing Walker. Afterwards a man identifiedhimself as a pastor at the nearby church who made the call, begs McMillin to allow him to check on Walker, but is told to stay back due to Walker being armed. In minutes officers arrived on the scene and checked Walker’s body where they claimed to find a loaded handgun. The pastor is heard explaining to the officers McMillin “did everything right.”

Later in the footage, McMillin is shown shaken leaning against a police car asking, “Why did [Walker] have to do that?” Currently McMillin is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. According to the Tulsa World, this is the first officer-involved shooting since the Muskogee Police began using body cameras.  Departments nationwide were made to wear them, after the deadly shooting death of unarmed Ferguson, Mo teen Michael Brown at the hands of former police officer Darren Brown. President Barack Obama announced recently the government will provide a $263 million package to help police departments across the country outfit their officers with body cameras.
