A teen from Houston lost her leg after her family’s boat hit a submerged rock and crashed on Kezar Lake in Maine. Reports indicate that 15-year-old Abby Mueller of Houston, was ejected from the 24-foot motorboat around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday and run over by the propeller. The teen’s father was driving the motorboat while pulling two inner tubes when the boat hit that submerged rock inside an area marked with hazard buoys.
The propeller then severed one of the teen’s legs between her ankle and knee. The girl was flown via LifeFlight to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
The teen’s father 44-year-old Robert Mueller, was with five other children at the time of the accident. He reportedly suffered minor injuries during the boating accident. Mueller is the father of three children; the other two juveniles on the boat are reportedly family cousins from Woodstock, Connecticut. With five people involved in the accident, only the girl and her father were injured.
