A Houston area bus driver was arrested on a DWI charge Thursday.

Linda Sue Godejohn was charged with driving while intoxicated on Thursday after she drove students from Yes Prep Public school and showed signs of intoxication.

Godejohn claims she wasn’t intoxicated at the time of her arrest. Instead, she says a bad doughnut from the school made her ill.

“I got something from the school to eat, and it had made me sick – a doughnut,” Godejohn told KHOU 11. “My stomach was just hurting so bad that my wheel feel off the – the thing, the curb. And that’s all it was. And going at 45 miles per hour, it’s gonna whip back.”

Her bus was spotted driving erratically and a parent stopped Godejohn, waiting for deputies to get there. Once she was pulled over, a field sobriety test was administered and she failed.

She was released on $100 bond.

YES Prep released a statement expressing their frustration if the allegations against Godejohn are true. See the statement below:

“YES Prep Public Schools has learned that a contracted bus driver was pulled over for driving erratically and then taken into custody for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. If these allegations prove true, we are furious that this driver put our students in harm’s way.

The bus driver is employed by First Student Bus Company – a bus vendor contracted by YES Prep – and is not a YES Prep employee. All of First Student Bus Company’s drivers undergo regular finger printing and rigorous background checks. If she is formally charged, she will never again be behind the wheel of a YES Prep-contracted bus.

We entrust our contracted bus drivers to get children home safely and without incident. Our top priority will always be the safety and well-being of our students – in and out of the classroom.”
